Resume Formats!

The unending search for perfect resume formats might seem a little daunting at first but once you learn the three most basic, you will be able to choose the most suitable one to highlight your skills and qualities to prospective employers.

The confusion you feel over the many formats need not be a part of the job search. There are only three main styles you need to focus on. There are some new formats that are coming to light with the Internet but the basics are still the best to use.

The three main formats include the functional resume, the chronological order resume, and a combination of the two. They all give you a good structure to show your information in a clear and precise manner. In choosing the right one, you need to consider a few things that will help you better decide. You need to make sure you present yourself in the best possible way and that means giving the right information to your employer in an easy to read format.

A functional resume format is one that highlights the skills, achievements, and experience you have without listing specific dates attached. It shows how you qualify for the job being applied for by the qualifications you possess. This is good for anyone who is out looking for their first job, those who like to change their career often, or those who might have a large amount of time between jobs.

A chronological resume format is the one in which more information is given relating specifically to dates in history. It is the most popular resume requested by employers. It shows that you have been consistent in your work history and the amount of time you spent in a particular field or career. For those who are new to the career world or who have large gaps in their employment history. Those who have changed their career choice a few times will not want this style either.

The combination format is the joining of the other two together. It joins a chronological list with the functional information to best present your qualifying skills and achievements to the prospective employer. This is best used for anyone who is looking for a job no matter what history they may have and is slowly but surely becoming the more popular of the resume formats today.
